Duo Chelys
The Delightful Conference
Music for two bass viols
This program presents a selection of joyful duos for the bass viols by important and much appreciated composers from England, France and the Netherlands.
The viol was during the baroque era an in vogue and cherished instrument in the noble courts of Europe and was played by professionals as well as skilled amateurs.
In these compositions for two viols without basso continuo the composers could fully use the entire capacity of the instrument. The viol is both a melodic as well as a harmonic instrument and suits therefore perfectly for duets.
Duo Chelys hopes that this cheerful music will give you amusement and joy!
